Good afternoon Greenfield families,
Fridays seem to come around quickly! Of course, the main focus for us this week has been the year 6 SATs. The children have worked hard and their maturity and determination has been so impressive. They’ve been in school from 8:10am every day this week to get ready so they’ll no doubt be ready for a lie in this weekend. Well done to each and every one of them. A huge thank you to Mrs Barker for also coming in early to cook bacon and sausage sandwiches for them all week! The SATs tests made no allowances for lost learning due to the pandemic, and staff have worked incredibly hard to prepare the children so a huge thank you to everyone involved, but especially Miss Elliot.
We’ve had a glorious week here at Greenfield. In the Starfish class the children have been learning about the horizon and how artists use it in their work. They have then created their own landscape pictures where the sea meets the sky in the horizon! Gorgeous!
The Dolphins of course had their much-awaited trip to The Deep to tie in with the science and geography units they have been working on. They had a marvellous time and I heard from our volunteers who accompanied them that they were the most well-mannered, best behaved school group there so well done to the Dolphins for being wonderful ambassadors for our school.
The Jellyfish are reading the biography of Greta Thunberg at the moment. They watched one of her speeches this week, and burst into applause at the end. Mrs Brown is so impressed with their engagement and enthusiasm for climate change as a result of their learning.
Whales have been learning about the mining of natural resources in South America and were fascinated to learn about miners getting trapped in Chile- there is a great opportunity there to make links to the mining heritage of our own community.
This week was rounded off in Sharks this afternoon with pizza making which was great fun and a lovely, informal end to the week. I think one of the highlights for many of them was being allowed into the school kitchen which is usually strictly out of bounds!
Next week, we will be meeting our September intake of new starters and their parents. We are really looking forward to meeting a whole new class of Greenfielders. We will also be auditioning in class for the talent show, with 4 acts from each class going through to Thursday’s semi-final where there will be a further round of auditions with myself and the school ambassadors judging. No pressure then!
Can I please remind parents of our upcoming planetarium event after half term and politely request that payment is made via parent pay? Thank you to those who have already paid.
This in assembly we focused on kindness. The winners are Edward, Olivia R, Finton and Katy.
We also awarded children for our value of “resilience.” Well done to Lenny, Mina, Eleanor and Hannah.
There were no individual awards for Dolphins because it was impossible to choose this week and so the whole class have earned some reward time next week. Amazing!
Have a fantastic weekend everyone!
